Eckersley would pitch from 1975 to 1998 as a starter and reliever. He had success as a starter but would become one of the greatest closers to play the game. Eckersley would be the first pitcher to win 20 games as a starter and have 50 saves in a season during his career. He would be traded to the Red Sox in March 1978 and would win 20 games and 17 wins in 1979. Over the next few seasons he would loose something off his fastball. He would start throwing a slider. He would be traded to the Cubs where he found out he had a alchol problem and went into rehab. He would join the Athletics in 1897 with La Russa was going to use him as a long releiver. He would have 16 saves in his first season. In is second season with the A's he would establish himself as one of the ngame dominate closers with 45 saves. In the 1988 WS he would give up the Kirk Gibson home run but he would redeem himself in the 1989 World Series saving game 2 and the clinching game 5. In the 1992 season he would have 51 saves and would win the American League MVP and Cy Yound Award. In 2004 he would be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. This jersey shows nice game use with fading and puckering of the numbers on front and back wirh heavy inside collar wear. This is one of the nicest Eckersley jerseys in the hobby. McAuliffe tagging in collar with size 44 and in tail has 1978 year tag and washing instructions. 2 addittional LOAs.
