Jeter would debut in May 1995 for the Yankees and was rated as the 4th best prospect in baseball. He would play in 15 games hitting .250. He would go into the 1996 season as the 6th best prospect in baseball. The Yankees were thinking of sending him back down as he made a few too many errors in the minors. Well, Joe Torre seen something in this young and announced he was going to be the Opening Day shortstop. He would not disappoint Torre as he hitting .314 with 104 runs scored and 78 RBI hitting ninth in the batting order the majority of the season. He exceeded all expectations in the Yankee organization. In the 1996 postseason, Torre would move Jeter to the lead off spot. In game 1 of the ALCS the Yankees would trail the Orioles 4-3 in the 8th inning, when Jeter stepped to the plate that would start the legacy of Derek Jeter. He would hit a fly ball to right that appeared to be just short of a home run when Jeffery Mair reached over the wall to catch the ball. While it appeared the ball would of remained in the field of play it stood as a home run and would be his first post season home run. The Yankees would defeat the Braves to win their fist World Series since 1978. Jeter would hit .361 in the 1996 postseason. Jeter would lead the Yankees to 4 World Series championships in 4 titles in 5 seasons and winning a 5th in 2009. The Yankees would win their first World Series in 1923 in the original Yankee Stadium and in 2009 they would repeat this feat winning the World Series in the new stadium's first season. In 2003, he would be elected as the Yankee Captain. Jeter would start his 20 year career with the only team he wanted to play for and fishish it with. He would finish with 3,465 hits, 14X All-Star, 5X World Series champion, 5X World Series champoin, Rookie of the Year, 5X Gold gGove winner and World Series MVP.
