Whitaker would win Olympic gold in the 1984 Olympics. He is regarded as one of the greatest light weight fighters. Ring Magazine listed the 100 Greatest Fighters of the last 80 years and Whitaker was number 10. In 1989, he would become the undisputed Light Weight Champion and would dominate through the mid 1990's. Whitaker had the mythical status as the best boxer in the world, pound for pound. He was involved in two fights that everyone felt he won outright but the judges awarded the other fighter. The fight against Jose' Luis Rameriz would be his first pro defeat in what is considered a disgrace and is considered one of the worst decisions in boxing history.
