Topps would produce a high number series featuring the rookie Mantle card and after realizing that it would release it late in the season. When finally released orders for the cards just weren't there, and they had a warehouse full of cases. Not able to store them they reportedly loaded them on a barge and dumped them into waters off New York. Like with many rookie cards no one could predict that this card would become the "Holy Grail" of post-war cards. Mantle 52 Topps cards stand out in the hobby and to 99.999 % of the collectors, this is the Mona Lisa of cards as the real Mona Lisa is the Honus Wagner card. He was just bigger than life and happened to play for the greatest franchise in sports the New York Yankees. Bowman produced the first Mantle card in 1951 but as we all know it is not a Topps card as Topps have driven the hobby since there inception in 1952. The 1952 Mantle card has turned the hobby and is treasured by every collector worldwide. Everyone remembers this county boy hitting tape measure home runs with the big country smile. He never realized how popular he was as a player and person. This Mantle card is indeed a keepsake for any card collector whether new in the hobby or the most sophisticated collector. This iconic card features a young Mantle with his bat over his shoulder with a youthful country boy look that says do I belong here. If he only knew what the future would hold for him. The last few years have seen this card skyrocket in price no matter the grade. Here is a lucky collectors chance to acquire a tremendous looking PSA 7 Topps Mickey Mantle card.
