Howard would come up at the wrong time as he would have to be the back up behind Hall of Famer catcher Yogi Berra. Stengel would have a hard time finding him playing time with all the future Hall of Famers on the team. When he did play he would shine. He would also be the first African American to play for the Yankees. In a career that could of been a Hall of Fame one if not playing behind Yogi Berra. He would finish with 12 All Star performances, 6 World Series championships, American League MVP, 2 Gold Gloves, number retired and a plaque in monument park. Jersey shows nice game use with well worn Spalding tag in tail with flag size 44. Below is Set 1 64. Name in collar is all original but is loose from wear. It appears the left side has had glue applied to hold it. Jersey has a repair in the middle of the Y on front. Piling on front and back from catchers equipment. This is the first Howard to come up for auction in years and there might not be another for a few more years. This is a nice example for any collection. Pants have Spalding tagging with Set 1 1965 flag tag with Wash instructions sewn in next to it. Strip tag has Howard removed but has 32 65 36 27 is embroidered on felt. Pants were sent to minors with Ham and O Connor in marker. There is also 32-36-65 in marker. Pants show nice wear with some spotting. Another amazing jersey from the Harry Hillard collection.
